Steven C. Smyth is a licensed Nursing Home Administrator in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina and a nationally credentialed Health Services Executive (HSE) with more than 30 years of senior leadership experience in long-term care, post-acute care, assisted living, behavioral health, and healthcare administration. He has served as Administrator, Executive Vice President, consultant, and healthcare executive, with responsibility for operations, regulatory compliance, staffing and supervision, quality assurance and performance improvement, risk management, resident safety, and executive oversight. His experience includes leadership of skilled nursing facilities ranging from 85 to more than 350 beds, as well as experience in hospital, adult day, residential, and community-based healthcare settings.
Mr. Smyth is retained nationwide by plaintiff and defense counsel, law firms, insurers, and healthcare organizations to provide independent expert analysis and testimony concerning administrative, operational, and regulatory standards of care. His areas of expertise include nursing home and long-term care administration, assisted living and residential care, staffing and supervision, regulatory compliance, falls and resident safety, pressure injuries, abuse and neglect, elopement, admissions and discharge practices, incident investigation, quality assurance, risk management, negligent hiring and supervision, and corporate and administrative oversight.
Mr. Smyth brings the perspective of an experienced healthcare operator to the evaluation of litigation matters, including whether organizational systems, policies, staffing practices, supervision, management decisions, and regulatory compliance met applicable standards of care. His opinions are grounded in federal and state regulatory requirements, accepted industry standards and practices, and decades of hands-on administrative and executive leadership experience.
In addition to holding nursing home administrator licenses in four states, Mr. Smyth’s professional credentials include Health Services Executive (HSE), Certified Nursing Home Administrator (CNHA), Board Certified Patient Advocate (BCPA), Certified Internal Forensic Healthcare Auditor (CIFHA), and Certified Montessori Dementia Care Professional (CMDCP). He is a Fellow of both the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and the American College of Health Care Administrators (FACHCA) and has held national and state leadership roles within professional healthcare organizations.
