Mr. McLaughlin has multiple unique skill sets applicable to 2023 as an expert witness.
1) 25+ years as an expert in restructuring real estate companies (RE), including homebuilders, industrial, multi family, and land development. Specific skills include insolvency analysis, land use regulations, and public company reporting/debt restructuring. Very Strong expertise in RE financial statement analysis.
2) 10+ years of experience in gold mine acquisition and development, federal and state regulations regarding permits to develop, CEQUA and other environmental permitting required for mining development. Specific experience in profitability analysis, capital raising, both equity and debt. Have acquired 2 prior operating gold mines in California through defaulted debt purchases to create substantial new value.
3) Extraordinarily strong expertise in financial statement analysis for insolvency and pre-insolvency cases where such determination is important to the outcome of the case.
4) Some experience in reorganizing Special Purpose Acquisition Companies (SPACs), capital raising and M@A for ultimate monetization of SPACs.
5) Substantial experience in EV (Electric Vehicle) capitalization, including self-driving cars and trucks (aka LIDAR applications).
6) 25+ years’ experience in debt and commodity markets used for acquisition of underlying assets.
7) CEO/BOD member of several public companies, very skilled at interpretation of public company reports, including 10Q, 10K, Annual Reports, Proxy Statements, etc.
8) Very active in large bankruptcy cases, both public and private companies.. Court appointed Ch. 11 Trustee (in re Sambo’s Restaurants). Identified and negotiated merger with another public restaurant company, completed reorganization in 18 months.

Mr. McLaughlin is returning to the Expert Witness business after a 5-year hiatus to pursue several management roles which have enhanced his value as an Expert Witness. During that period, Mr. McLaughlin was significantly engaged in the gold mining business, acting as the managing partner of a venture which acquired 2 prior operating gold mines. In this endeavor McLaughlin applied his skills as a Chapter 11 Trustee to acquire defaulted debt on 2 gold mines which allowed the acquisition of the mines at a highly discounted price to create some $300 Million in new value.

From this gold mining experience Mr. McLaughlin has also acted as an advisor to other gold mining interests and has become a qualified expert in gold mine valuations, permitting, environmental permits and issues, and in the capital raising aspects of gold mining operations.

Through these activities McLaughlin has also become an expert in Litigation Finance activities where capital is raised to finance the pursuit of litigation by Plaintiffs. This new industry is now a $5 Billion + industry in North America, Europe, and Australia.

Mr. McLaughlin has also recently been an advisor to startup companies raising capital through SPACs (Special Purpose Acquisition Companies). These were technology companies in the solar/battery storage businesses and the EV business.

By virtue of his experience in investment banking, Mr. McLaughlin has a strong record in corporate finance, the interpretation of corporate and partnership financial statements, and the SEC and state regulations governing the use of those capital raising activities. Mr. McLaughlin was previously licensed with Series 79 and Series 63 Securities licenses.

Mr. McLaughlin has extensive experience in federal bankruptcy regulations and operations, largely based on his experience as the Chapter 11 Court Appointed Trustee for the Sambo’s Restaurants matter. McLaughlin implemented one of the fastest Chapter 11 Plans when he organized a merger of Sambo’s with another restaurant company, Vicorp Restaurants, in less than 18 Months. This provided McLaughlin with extensive knowledge in financial statement analysis, the judgement on liquidity issues, and how to successfully restructure a bankrupt company to the benefit of all parties at interest.
