Dr. Thomas McDonagh is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in anxiety, workplace stress, mindfulness, and performance enhancement. He currently serves as owner and practitioner at Good Therapy SF in San Francisco, a growing clinical psychology group practice focused on individual and group therapy for anxiety, stress, workplace, and life-phase challenges.
Dr. McDonagh earned his Bachelor of Science in Psychology, with a minor in Biology, from Manhattan College in Riverdale, NY, in 2005. He then completed a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology at Nova Southeastern University (2005–2007) and subsequently earned his Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University (2007–2011), with a dissertation examining burnout effects in the occupational workforce.
His clinical training includes an APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship at Vanderbilt Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic and Nashville VA Medical Center (2010–2011), emphasizing best-practice treatments for general adult and Iraq/Afghanistan veteran populations, including competency-to-stand-trial assessments. Postdoctoral experience at APA-accredited Kaiser Permanente in Santa Rosa, CA, focused on assessing and treating adults with substance abuse and urgent psychiatric issues.
Dr. McDonagh has held numerous clinical positions, including behavioral health psychologist at Pacific Coast Psychiatric Associates (2013–2017), where he developed and implemented treatment programs for anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, and ADHD, and clinical psychologist at SF Stress and Anxiety Center (2014–2017), focusing on integrative health approaches for anxiety, workplace, and relationship issues.
His practicum experiences include providing individual and group therapy for adolescents and adults with severe mood disorders, PTSD, schizophrenia, and substance abuse issues, as well as coordinating admissions and utilization review in inpatient psychiatric settings.
Dr. McDonagh has also engaged in research as a co-investigator and research assistant, studying concussion assessments and performance enhancement in athletes, suicide prevention strategies for at-risk youth, and social preferences in children. His teaching and mentorship contributions include guest lectures on insomnia and PTSD at Kaiser Permanente and Belmont University.
