Raised in Sacramento, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacology magna cum laude from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and received his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. He completed his orthopedic residency through the San Francisco Orthopedic Residency Program, where he developed a specialized interest in sports-related injuries.
