Dr. Sarah Lowenthal is a UCSF-trained and board-certified eating disorder expert with over 20 years of clinical experience treating patients with eating disorders and related conditions. She provides specialized medical care for children, adolescents and adults with eating disorders and co-occurring mental health diagnoses (e.g. Anxiety, Depression, OCD, ADHD, and others). Dr. Lowenthal is one of the few physicians nationwide holding a designation as a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist and Consultant(CEDS-C) by the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (IAEDP). As a former Board Member of the IAEDP SF Bay Area Chapter and a member of the Academy of Eating Disorders, Dr. Lowenthal provides supervision and education to other physicians in the field. She currently runs an outpatient private practice in the San Francisco Bay Area, and has treated patients at all levels of care including intensive outpatient (IOP), partial hospitalization (PHP), residential treatment, and inpatient hospitalization.
Dr. Lowenthal received a medical degree from the University of Chicago, and completed residency at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). She was named "Top Doctor" by Marin Magazine 2026 & 2020, "Top 10 Metro Area Doctors" in 2014, and a “Best Doctor” by Oakland Magazine in 2012.
Dr. Lowenthal's expert witness experience includes both state and federal litigation related to eating disorders, social media addiction, ADHD, depression/anxiety, and other mental health conditions, obesity medicine, and severe malnutrition.
