Introduction

Dr. O. Deborah Akinsilo is a board-certified occupational medicine physician with comprehensive training in occupational and environmental health, global medicine, and workplace safety. Since September 2023, she has been in clinical practice at Ochsner Occupational Health as a Staff Physician, providing evaluation and treatment of work-related injuries and illnesses, as well as medical surveillance and pre-employment examinations. She currently serves as the Medical Director of Ochsner Occupational Health in New Orleans, Louisiana, a position she assumed in February 2025 after previously serving as Interim Medical Director from July 2024 to February 2025.

Dr. Akinsilo completed her residency in Occupational and Environmental Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York (2021–2023), where she gained extensive experience in the evaluation, management, and prevention of occupational and environmentally related conditions. Prior to that, she completed an internship in General Surgery at WellSpan York Hospital in Pennsylvania (2020–2021), where she assisted in more than 200 open and laparoscopic procedures and managed complex perioperative care. Her academic background includes an MPH in Occupational and Environmental Health from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (2023), an MD from St. George’s University (2020), an MS in Global Medicine from the University of Southern California (2014), and a BA in History with a minor in Public Health from UCLA (2012).

Board-certified in Occupational Medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine (2024) and certified as a Medical Review Officer by MROCC (2025), Dr. Akinsilo holds active medical licenses in Louisiana, New York, and California.
She is a recognized leader in corporate and occupational medicine education. Within the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM), she currently serves as Education Chair for the Corporate Medicine Section (2025–present) and previously served as Vice Education Chair (2023–2025), where she played key roles in producing nationally recognized Corporate Medicine Fireside Chats.

Dr. Akinsilo has presented research at national conferences, contributed educational content to professional webinars, and received multiple awards, including the ACOEM Corporate Medicine Section Scholarship and Resident Rotation Grant (2022). She is an active member of numerous professional organizations, including ACOEM, ABPM, the Southern College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, the National Medical Association, and the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas.
