Introduction

Dr. Monique Kaur Atwal is a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in the treatment of transitional age youth, adult, geriatric, and adolescent populations, with additional expertise in addiction psychiatry and consult liaison psychiatry. She currently serves as a staff psychiatrist at both Inspire Health and Community Behavioral Health Center in Fresno, California. At Inspire Health, she provides direct psychiatric care through the Transitional Age Youth Program at the Fresno County Department of Behavioral Health, offering medication management, counseling, and collaborative treatment planning. In addition, Dr. Atwal is a supervising physician with North American Mental Health Services, where she oversees nurse practitioners at mental health clinics across California.

Dr. Atwal earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychobiology from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2012. She went on to complete her Doctor of Medicine at the University of California, Davis in 2019 as part of the San Joaquin Valley PRIME program, a specialized clinical track for students committed to serving medically underserved communities. She completed her residency in psychiatry at UCSF Fresno in June 2023, where she gained broad clinical experience across multiple inpatient and outpatient settings.

During residency, she served at several institutions, including Community Behavioral Health Center (2020–2021), University Psychiatry Associates (2021–2023), and Fresno County Department of Behavioral Health (2022–2023). She also completed emergency and inpatient psychiatry rotations at the Veterans Affairs Hospital and Community Regional Medical Center from 2020 to 2023, focusing on acute care, consult liaison psychiatry, and capacity evaluations.

Dr. Atwal holds academic appointments as a Voluntary Assistant Clinical Professor at UCSF Fresno and serves as a Psychiatry Clerkship Champion for the UCSF PRIME program. She has delivered multiple presentations at regional and national conferences, earning recognition for her work in diagnostic psychiatry and community education.

Fluent in English and Punjabi, Dr. Atwal is deeply committed to improving mental health care access in underserved communities throughout California.
