Dr. Melissa A. Bohonos is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist

She is the founder of Holistic Vision LLC in San Antonio, Texas, where since 2020 she has provided

treatment, diabetic eye disease care, urgent eye care, uveitis management, and advanced dry eye
therapy, particularly for post-LASIK patients.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Bohonos has served as an Independent Medical Examiner since
2022, conducting over 300 independent reviews across diverse clinical conditions for insurers, labor
departments, and veteran services, consistently maintaining a 100% compliance rate for quality and
timeliness. She was also a Physician Reviewer for HQSI from 2020 to 2022, evaluating ophthalmological
cases in quality and utilization review.

From 2019 to 2020, Dr. Bohonos was a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University
at Buffalo, Jacobs School of Medicine, practicing at the Ross Eye Institute. There, she managed a broad
spectrum of ophthalmic conditions, performed cataract and glaucoma surgeries, conducted medical
retina treatments, and provided resident education. Previously, she practiced at the Carle Physician
Group/Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois, from 2013 to 2018, where she specialized in
glaucoma and cataract surgery, gaining extensive experience with minimally invasive and traditional
glaucoma procedures.

Dr. Bohonos completed her Glaucoma Fellowship at Indiana University’s Glick Eye Institute (2012–2013)
after an Ophthalmology Residency at Boston University/Boston Medical Center (2009–2012). She
previously completed a medical internship at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta (2008–2009) and
earned her Doctor of Medicine from Morehouse School of Medicine (2004–2008). Her academic
foundation began with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences at the University of California, Davis
(1998–2003), followed by postgraduate research in mucin gene regulation at UC Davis (2003–2004).
Her research has been presented nationally, including at the American Glaucoma Society and ARVO, and
she has co-authored peer-reviewed publications on glaucoma management, ocular trauma, and mucin
biology. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Glaucoma Society,
Ophthalmic Women Leaders, Ophthalmic Wellness and Nutrition Society, and the San Antonio Society
 of Ophthalmology.
