Introduction

Dr. Kathleen Colleran is a board-certified endocrinologist and internal medicine physician with over 25 years of experience in clinical care, research, and medical education. She is licensed in New Mexico (License #95-210, valid through 2026) and holds recertifications in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism. She is also WPATH GEI certified for advanced gender-confirming hormone therapy and adolescent transgender care.

Dr. Colleran earned her Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1986 and her medical degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1991. She completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of New Mexico (1991–1994), followed by a fellowship and research fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism at UNM (1994–1997). She also completed the General Clinical Research Center Scholars Program and the Medical Education Scholars Program in 1999–2000.

From 1997 to 2014, Dr. Colleran served as Professor of Internal Medicine/Endocrinology at the University of New Mexico, where she held tenure, directed the Endocrinology and Metabolism Fellowship Program (2000–2012), and served as Medical Director of both the Clinical Trials Center (2008–2012) and the Cardiovascular Risk Reduction Clinic (2007–2012). During this time, she was recognized with multiple teaching awards, including the Dean’s Award of Distinction and the UNM School of Medicine Hippo Award for Teaching (2000–2010).

In 2015, Dr. Colleran joined the Center for Endocrine Health in Santa Fe, where she practiced until 2021. She subsequently served as an endocrinologist at San Juan Regional Medical Center (2021–2022) and provided primary care and transgender health services at Sage Neurosciences Center (2022–2023). She currently practices endocrinology with Lovelace Medical Group and provides utilization review for Dane Street.

Dr. Colleran is an active member of the Endocrine Society and WPATH and serves on the planning committee for ADA Camp 180 for children with type 1 diabetes. She is a frequent invited lecturer on topics including diabetes management, thyroid disease, obesity, and cardiovascular risk reduction. Her research contributions include numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, with a focus on diabetes disparities, cardiovascular risk, and community health worker training. She has served as Principal Investigator and Sub-Investigator on multiple federally funded and industry-sponsored clinical trials.
