John Morehead, MD
After completing undergraduate studies at Texas Tech University in Lubbock Texas, medical school at UT Southwestern medical school in Dallas, and rotating internship in Newport News, Virginia, Dr. Morehead served for 2 assignments as a flight medical officer in the USAF. He then underwent 2 years of training as a categorical general surgery resident, followed by otolaryngology residency at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in San Antonio. He served as a Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery fellow at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He then was appointed as Chief of Facial Plastic Surgery at Wilford Hall Medical Center. During this period, he was appointed Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services School of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. After leaving the military, Dr. Morehead was engaged in private practice of cosmetic surgery in Dallas Texas for 10 years. After this he was invited to join the faculty of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center of San Antonio, where he remained for the next 10 years, retiring as Associate Professor with tenure, and serving as Residency Program Director. He then joined the faculty of Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon, and completed his service at the VA Medical Center there. Since then he has returned as part-time faculty member at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, working in the University Health System. He is board-certified in Otolaryngology and in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
