John T. McMahan, MD, FACS
John T. McMahan, MD, FACS is a board-certified Otolaryngologist–Head and Neck Surgeon with
more than 40 years of clinical and surgical experience. He completed fellowship training in Head
and Neck Oncology and served on the faculty of Northwestern University Feinberg School of
Medicine. Dr. McMahan has extensive expertise in rhinology, sinus surgery, thyroid and parathyroid
surgery, sleep-disordered breathing, otology, airway disorders, head and neck surgery, and
office-based ENT procedures.
In addition to a distinguished clinical career, Dr. McMahan provides expert medical consultation in
matters involving standards of care, surgical complications, causation analysis, medical record
review, physician performance, disability and impairment assessment, and complex
multidisciplinary medical issues. He has experience reviewing cases for both plaintiff and defense
counsel and has provided deposition and trial testimony.
Areas of particular interest include recurrent laryngeal nerve injury, thyroid and parathyroid surgery,
sinus and rhinologic disorders, sleep medicine, airway management, otologic disease, delayed
diagnosis, informed consent, and surgical decision-making.
