Introduction

Dr. Hrishikesh K. Belani is a board-certified internal medicine physician and public health leader with extensive experience in primary care delivery, HIV medicine, health equity, and clinical leadership across large public health systems. He currently serves as Associate Chief Medical Officer and Director of Primary Care for the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services Ambulatory Care Network, where he oversees primary care operations, quality initiatives, and interdisciplinary practice standards across the county’s healthcare system.

Dr. Belani earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Washington University in St. Louis in 2004, followed by a Master of Public Health in Health Policy and Management from Columbia University in 2005. He completed his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Minnesota in 2013 and went on to complete an Internal Medicine – Primary Care Residency at the University of Colorado in 2016.

Following residency, Dr. Belani joined Olive View–UCLA Medical Center, where he served in progressive leadership roles including HIV Primary Care Medical Director, Adult Primary Care Clinic Medical Director, and Director of Primary Care. In 2021, he became Associate Medical Director of the South Los Angeles Health Center Group before assuming his current executive position in 2023. He also holds academic appointments as Health Sciences Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and Clinical Assistant Professor at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science.

Dr. Belani’s research and publications span HIV prevention, health systems implementation, and COVID-19 therapeutics, with work featured in The New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet Infectious Diseases, and The Journal of Addiction Medicine. He has received multiple awards for leadership and humanitarian service, including induction into the Gold Humanism Honor Society.

He is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and licensed to practice medicine in California.
