Introduction

Hi there, I’m Dr. Derek Ream, a Forensic Psychologist and the Owner and CEO of Sugar Land Psychological Associates. I specialize in criminal and civil forensic evaluations, including assessments of competency to stand trial, criminal responsibility (insanity), violence risk, and testamentary capacity. I have been appointed by multiple courts across Texas, qualified as an expert, and have provided testimony to assist judges and attorneys in understanding the psychological factors relevant to each case.

My background includes extensive work across inpatient, residential, and outpatient settings, with specialized experience in suicide and violence risk assessment, severe mental illness, substance use disorders, and neurocognitive impairment. I received advanced training in neuropsychological assessment and rehabilitation through the VA Healthcare System, the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and the Design Neuroscience Center. I have worked extensively with veterans, active-duty service members, and law enforcement professionals.

Professionally, I have served as an Assistant Professor at Baylor College of Medicine, a Clinical Psychologist in the VA’s Substance Disorders Treatment Program, an Adjunct Professor at Clark State College, and a Forensic Psychologist with Forum Ohio, LLC. I’ve published and presented in neuropsychology, rehabilitation psychology, and cognitive neuroscience at national and international levels.
In addition to managing my practice, I currently serve as President of the Fort Bend Psychological Association, sit on the Prescribing Psychology (“RxP”) Committee of the Texas Psychological Association, and act as a peer reviewer for a neuropsychology journal.
