Benjamin B. DeVore is a licensed clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist with a multifaceted career spanning trauma, neuropsychological assessment, and military mental health. He currently serves at Naval Medical Center San Diego as a neuropsychologist, providing advanced evaluation and treatment for patients with complex neurological and psychological conditions.
Dr. DeVore earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Science in Psychology with a neuroscience focus from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He commissioned in the United States Navy and completed a clinical psychology internship at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. He has held several leadership positions, including assignment as the Division Officer of the Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program (SARP) at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, overseeing a team of over 25 clinicians and support staff. Notably, he later served as the Embedded Fleet Command Clinical Psychologist aboard the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75) and with Carrier Strike Group 8, where he provided high-stakes behavioral health care and crisis consultation for over 6,000 service members during deployment.
Dr. DeVore has conducted extensive neuropsychological work across academic, military, and VA settings, including the Salem VA Medical Center and Lewis-Gale Medical Center. His research portfolio includes peer-reviewed publications and numerous national and international presentations in neuropsychology and trauma-related conditions. He has served as a manuscript reviewer for journals such as The Clinical Neuropsychologist and Journal of Clinical and Experimental Neuropsychology.
In academia, Dr. DeVore taught undergraduate and graduate psychology courses at Virginia Tech and Belmont University and mentored student research teams. His early clinical experience includes work in trauma-focused inpatient rehabilitation, co-occurring disorders, and veteran care.
A decorated military officer and U.S. Coast Guard veteran, Dr. DeVore holds multiple honors including the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the highly competitive US Navy Health Professions Scholarship.
