Dr. Adam J. Carinci, MD, JD, MBA is a nationally recognized CRPS thought leader and leading expert witness with over fifteen years of pain medicine experience. With dual training as both a physician and a lawyer, Dr. Carinci is a sought-after expert witness in complex medico-legal matters on a national stage, bringing distinct acumen at the intersection of medicine and law. He is double board-certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine and maintains an active, full-time clinical practice. Dr. Carinci is Chief of Pain Management and Director of the Interventional Spine and Pain Treatment Center at the University of Rochester Medical Center and an Associate Professor at the University of Rochester School of Medicine. Previously, he served as Director of the Pain Medicine Center at Massachusetts General Hospital and Instructor at Harvard Medical School. He trained at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Harvard Medical School and obtained his JD/MBA from Louisiana State University – Novus Law School.
Dr. Carinci has been involved in over 150 cases as an expert witness for both plaintiff (35%) and defense (65%) and has qualified as an expert in both state and federal courts. He has authored more than 75 expert reports and has provided sworn testimony at depositions and trials nationwide, including civil and criminal opioid-related matters. His forensic experience spans all facets of pain medicine, medical malpractice, and opioid litigation, with concentrated domain expertise in CRPS and nerve injury, CRPS life care plan analysis, standard-of-care evaluation, opioid prescribing practices, risk assessment and monitoring, medical causation, differential diagnosis, and exclusion of mimicking conditions. He routinely evaluates opioid management in the context of chronic pain, regulatory compliance, and alleged opioid-related injury or death.
In his role as a forensic expert, Dr. Carinci prepares comprehensive written reports, develops detailed visual aids, assists with case strategy, deposition preparation, and cross-examination, and provides clear, authoritative testimony grounded in medical literature and clinical experience. He is recognized for his ability to communicate complex medical concepts effectively to juries and legal teams. Dr. Carinci has been involved in high-profile CRPS and opioid cases involving prominent institutions and corporations.
