Dr. Zal Phiroz

Dr. Phiroz is a highly regarded expert in supply chain management, manufacturing, distribution and product liability, with over two decades of experience at the intersection of industry and academia.
At Procter & Gamble (NYSE:PG), Dr. Phiroz held senior and leadership roles, focused on driving transformative supply chain initiatives that enhanced both cost efficiency and service delivery across diverse markets. In addition to corporate achievements, Dr. Phiroz currently holds faculty positions at Harvard University, and UCSD, focused on supply chain, operations management, and the role of quality assurance in product design and manufacturing. In 2023, he was appointed as a fellow at Harvard University (Inclusive Teaching Fellowship).
As an expert witness, Dr. Phiroz has worked on mass tort and class action cases involving complex supply chains, as well as civil cases involving product quality assurance, product recalls, product liability, manufacturing and distribution shortcomings. He has been deposed, and appeared in trial, mediation and arbitration. His work has included cases involving notable fortune 100 parties, at various levels of federal and state court.
Examples of cases in which Dr. Phiroz has opined on include the following:
- Injury due to product design, manufacturing and quality assurance flaws. Analysis of manufacturing standards for product recalls and product usage testing, under various manufacturing, storage and product safety guidelines.
- Determination of inventory damages and liability across supply chain channels (e.g. warehouse, distribution center etc.), and assessment supply chain contract, partner performance, consumer behavior, demand forecasting and projection at various nodes (e.g. supplier, manufacturer, distributor, wholesaler, warehouse, 3PL, retail).
- Assessment of packaging and labeling standards for tangible products. Evaluation of ISO 9001 standards, cold chain protocol, Proposition 65 warnings.
Dr. Phiroz holds a PhD in Supply Chain Management, an MBA, and two undergraduate degrees in Computer Science. He has authored numerous influential articles on global supply chain issues, and has been quoted in media publications (e.g. Wired magazine, ABC etc.). Dr. Phiroz also appears on an ASCM supply chain documentary scheduled to be released on Amazon Prime in 2025. His latest book titled ‘Perspectives of Supply Chain Competitiveness - A Handbook’ was re-released in 2024.
