Dr. Theodore Teruya is a board-certified vascular surgeon with a distinguished career spanning over two decades, marked by a commitment to clinical excellence, military service, and academic leadership. He currently serves as a Vascular Surgeon at Cedars Sinai and as the Director of the Huntington Health Vascular Lab. With extensive experience in both endovascular and open surgical techniques, Dr. Teruya is a recognized expert in treating a wide range of vascular conditions, while also serving on the SCORE Vascular Surgery Editorial Board as an Associate Editor.
Dr. Teruya’s comprehensive medical training began with a Bachelor of Arts from Occidental College. He earned his medical degree from the University of Hawaii in 1995, followed by an internship at Baylor University Medical Center. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Hawaii, and a specialized vascular surgery fellowship at Loma Linda University in 2001. Dr. Teruya is board-certified in both Surgery and Vascular Surgery by the American Board of Surgery. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the Society of Vascular Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, holding active medical licenses in multiple states, including California and Hawaii.
Over his career, Dr. Teruya has held significant academic and clinical roles. Following his fellowship, he served as an Assistant Professor and later a Professor at Loma Linda University from 2001 to 2004 and from 2021 to 2023, respectively. Concurrently, he was a Vascular Surgeon at the Loma Linda Veterans Administration from 2007 to 2021, where he also served as Chairman of the Limb Salvage Committee. He has a long history of teaching, mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows at various institutions, including Cedars Sinai, Loma Linda University, and Charles Drew University.
A prolific author and respected consultant, Dr. Teruya has contributed to over 60 peer-reviewed publications, and has authored book chapters and served as the editor for The Vascular Surgery In-Training Examination Review. His research has been featured in prominent journals such as the Journal of Vascular Surgery and the Annals of Vascular Surgery, where he also served as an Associate Editor. In recognition of his service, he was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal twice in 2020 and 2022, as well as the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal in 2019. His commitment to patient care extends to his role as a consultant for the Medical Board of California, where he has served since 2014.
