Introduction

Dr. Sudhakar Subramani is a board-certified anesthesiologist with advanced training in cardiothoracic anesthesia and medical education, currently serving as a Clinical Professor in the Department of Anesthesia at the University of Iowa Health Care, Carver College of Medicine. His career spans over two decades across India, Singapore, and the United States, combining clinical practice, academic leadership, and a strong commitment to medical education.

Dr. Subramani earned his MBBS from Chengalpattu Medical College in 1999, followed by an MD in Anesthesiology from Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) in 2005, where he graduated with the Gold Medal. He completed a Master of Medicine (MMed) in Anesthesiology at the National University of Singapore in 2009 and, most recently, a Master in Medical Education (MME) at the University of Iowa in 2024. His postgraduate training includes a fellowship in Cardiothoracic Neurosurgical Anesthesiology at the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, India, and a fellowship in Cardiothoracic Anesthesia at the University of Iowa.

His clinical career began as an intensivist in India, followed by faculty and consultant positions at SRM Medical College Hospital and Singapore General Hospital. Since 2012, Dr. Subramani has been on faculty at the University of Iowa, progressing from Associate to Clinical Assistant Professor, then Clinical Associate Professor, and now Clinical Professor of Anesthesia. He has been recognized repeatedly for excellence in teaching, receiving multiple Resident Teacher of the Year Awards (2021–2023) and, in 2024, the President and Provost Award for Teaching Excellence.

Dr. Subramani is a Diplomate in Advanced Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography and a Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography (FASE). His scholarly contributions include clinical research, educational innovation, and national presentations. He remains deeply invested in advancing perioperative care and medical education.
