I am a tenured Associate Professor in the School of Geography, Development, and Environment at the University of Arizona, with faculty appointments in the Criminology minor in the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences, the Graduate Interdisciplinary Program in Social, Cultural, and Critical Theory, and the Center for Latin American Studies.

I provide expert testimony in criminal cases involving gang identity and affiliation, gang territoriality, gang enhancements, and gang-related criminal activity, including the interpretation and use of gang and non-gang graffiti as criminal evidence. My opinions draw on more than two decades of participant and scholarly research and fieldwork concerning gangs, graffiti, urban culture, and criminal justice, as well as extensive firsthand experience in communities affected by gangs and experience participating in criminal cases in multiple jurisdictions.

I am available for initial case review, analysis of evidence, expert report writing, as well as deposition and trial testimony. I have provided expert testimony in criminal cases in Pima and Gila Counties, Arizona, Portland Metropolitan, and Los Angeles County, California.

My scholarly work includes one published monograph, a second monograph on gang identity and the history of gang territoriality in Los Angeles currently under contract with the University of Chicago Press, and more than 25 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in criminology, geography, and related fields. My research and analysis have been featured in NPR, the Los Angeles Times, The Guardian, The Washington Post, and The New York Times.

I am a member of the American Society of Criminology, American Association of Geographers, and Royal Geographical Society. I currently serve as co-chair of the University of Arizona Committee on Ethics and Commitment and previously chaired the University of Arizona Police Advisory Board. I also teach the University of Arizona's 400+-student course, Crime and the City and the upper division course, The Geography of Gangs in America.
