Introduction

Dr. Scott McIntosh Porter is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with more than a decade of experience in general orthopedics, sports medicine, trauma, and complex arthroplasty. He currently practices with Sutter Medical Group in Davis, California, where he has been on staff since 2014, and serves as Chief of Surgery and a member of the Medical Executive Committee at Sutter Davis Hospital (2020–2024). His practice encompasses a high volume of hip, knee, and shoulder replacements, as well as sports medicine, arthroscopy, hand surgery, and orthopedic trauma.

Dr. Porter completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of California, Davis, in 2014. During his residency, he trained extensively at one of the nation’s top orthopedic hospitals, gaining comprehensive operative experience across subspecialties. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine in 2009, where he was nominated to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He previously graduated summa cum laude from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and a minor in Psychology.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Porter has a strong background in medical device development and healthcare innovation. As co-founder and former CEO of ResQ Medical, he helped design and launch a patented geofencing smartphone application that tracks and monitors hospital work hours, now in use at major health systems nationwide. He also founded Advanced Medical Photonics, a dermatologic laser device company, and personally authored successful FDA 510(k) submissions for medical device approvals.

Dr. Porter’s research contributions span orthopedics, ophthalmology, and dermatology, with publications in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology and Journal of Glaucoma. He has also presented at national meetings including the American Glaucoma Society and the Cervical Spine Research Society. His work has been supported by competitive research fellowships and grants, including awards from the Helen Keller Foundation.

A recipient of multiple teaching and service honors, Dr. Porter was named Teacher of the Year by the Sutter Family Medicine Residency Program in 2019. He is an active member of Alpha Omega Alpha and the Golden Key National Honor Society.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Porter is an accomplished long-distance runner, marathoner, and outdoor enthusiast.
