Introduction

Dr. Adhia is a double Board-Certified Forensic Psychiatrist in private expert practice for civil and criminal cases. Forensic evaluations, including IMEs, consider psychiatric conditions associated with triggering events. Dr. Adhia's forensic and clinical practices address Depression, PTSD and Anxiety Disorders found in allegations of emotional distress. Mental health conditions are associated with singular or ongoing events, personal injury, sexual abuse, rape, and harassment, medication interactions, addiction to alcohol, prescription and over the counter (OTC) drugs and opioids. Risk for suicide and violence may be present. Malingering is always considered. Dr. Adhia assesses claims of medical malpractice and institutional standard of care. Dr. Adhia routinely conducts medical evaluations of both plaintiffs and defendants, victims of violence, alleged perpetrators.

A claim that a triggering event resulted in damages is the core of litigation. Dr. Adhia assesses new and preexisting conditions, psychiatric damages, diagnosis, prognosis. In probate cases, where a testator is living or deceased, Dr. Adhia assesses competency to enter into a contract, testamentary capacity and/or undue influence. Dr. Adhia is expert in psychopharmacology. Medication-interactions include doctor prescribed drugs, always a concern in elder abuse and competency.

Dr. Adhia treats and opines about addiction including legally obtained and highly addictive treatment of anxiety with benzodiazepines, chronic pain and Oxycontin, as well as addiction to alcohol, and opioids (heroin, crack)

As a physician, Dr. Adhia is qualified to consider medical records, competency evaluations, history, and collateral statements by family or law enforcement as the case may be, including video, audio and photographic media in coming to his med-legal conclusions. When indicated, Dr. Adhia conducts a thorough Independent Medical Examination and review of records, to communicate his findings and opinions by report and testimony.

Dr. Adhia volunteers with Physicians for Human Rights, treating victims of Human Trafficking, sexual assault, and kidnapping or false imprisonment. Patients develop PTSD, Severe Anxiety Disorders and Depression.

In correctional psychiatry, Dr. Adhia has treated violent offenders including Death Row inmates, prisoners in Isolation, and non-violent offenders. He routinely assesses competency to stand trial and "insanity" as a defense. He also sees patients committed to prison psychiatric hospital treated for Psychosis, Schizophrenia, Dissociative Disorders (hallucinations, delusions). Dr. Adhia is experienced in the standard of care in institutions, such as treatment of incarcerated inmates and correctional jurisdiction psychiatric hospitals.
