Introduction

Dr. Zimmanck is a board-certified anesthesiologist and Fellow of the American Society of Anesthesiologists with over a decade of clinical, academic, and institutional leadership experience. He provides independent expert witness services and medicolegal consultation in anesthesia malpractice, perioperative patient safety, and standards of care, with experience spanning case review, written report preparation, and trial testimony.

Dr. Zimmanck's opinions are grounded in objective data, current clinical guidelines, and direct frontline expertise. He approaches each case without predisposition to either party, offering analysis that reflects the medical record as it exists and not as any party wishes it to read. This commitment to intellectual honesty makes him an effective and credible resource for both plaintiff and defense counsel.

As Chair of the Anesthesia Patient Safety and Quality Committees at Advocate Health, Dr. Zimmanck leads system-wide perioperative safety and quality improvement initiatives. He serves as Medical Director of Advocate Aurora Health Mount Pleasant Medical Center and designed the Anesthesia Perioperative Surgical Home, a multidisciplinary pre-operative clinic focused on optimizing patient outcomes and reducing preventable complications. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin Society of Anesthesiologists and on his hospital's mortality review committee, roles that keep him actively engaged in evolving standards of anesthesia practice.
His medicolegal work encompasses the full spectrum of case support: record review and chronology, standard-of-care analysis, causation opinions, expert report drafting, deposition preparation, and courtroom testimony before judges and juries. He applies the same analytical discipline to every engagement that he brings to institutional quality and safety review.

Areas of concentration include:

Perioperative risk assessment and anesthesia planning
Airway management and emergency response protocols
Anesthesia standards of care and deviation analysis
Intraoperative monitoring, documentation, and audit trail review
Patient safety, quality improvement, and systems-based failures
Causation analysis in anesthesia-related adverse outcomes

Dr. Zimmanck consults with plaintiff and defense counsel, risk management professionals, insurance carriers, and healthcare organizations nationwide. Inquiries are welcome from attorneys at any stage of litigation.
