Dr. Mona Shawky is an ABIM-certified internal medicine physician and medical director recognized for her excellence in clinical care, academic achievement, and healthcare leadership. She brings over 30 years of diverse experience spanning hospital medicine, internal medicine, cardiovascular disease research, quality and safety oversight, and healthcare operations.
Dr. Shawky earned her medical degree from Suez Canal University School of Medicine in 1993, where she graduated as Valedictorian. She completed clinical training and an M.S. in Pharmacology and Physiology, and was a Faculty of School of Medicine. She went on to complete a postdoctoral research in cardiovascular science and atherosclerosis at the University of Toronto, producing multiple publications including contributions to a book chapter; Oxidative Stress and Cardiac Failure (2002). She then advanced her training through an Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (2010–2013), with extensive inpatient, ICU, and CCU experience. She is currently pursuing an advanced training in Healthcare Quality, and Safety at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Shawky’s professional career includes leadership roles in hospital medicine, and mortality review. She has served as Medical Director of Lake WA Internal Medicine PLLC (Overlake Medical Center affiliate) since 2020, while also practicing hospital and outpatient medicine across multiple health systems, including University of Washington, Providence Health, The Vancouver Clinic, PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, Jefferson Health System, and CHI. She also took the role of Faculty in The Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Washington.
She is widely recognized for her expertise in Cardiovascular and Atherosclerotic Disease, management and prevention of Adverse Cardiovascular Events, Internal Medicine complex cases, forensic chart review, Mortality Review and Root Cause Analysis, and quality improvement.
Her honors include America’s Top Doctors (2014–2017, 2020–2024), Top Women in Medicine (2021–2024), Top Compassionate Physician (2019), Physician Champion – UM (2019), and Medical School Valedictorian.
An active member of the American Board of Internal Medicine, American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, and the Society of Hospital Medicine, Dr. Shawky continues to advance high-quality patient-centered care while mentoring providers in Internal Medicine, evidence-based practice, and healthcare operations.
