About Dr. Maurice Preter
Dr. med. Maurice Preter, MD, is a New York City based psychiatrist, neuropsychiatrist, psychopharmacologist, psychotherapist, and neurologist with close to four decades of experience in clinical medicine and more than two decades of experience as a medical-legal expert and expert witness since 2003. He is among a select and limited group of physicians in the United States who are fully dual-trained and board-certified in both psychiatry and neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and who actively practice both specialties.
Education and Training
Dr. Preter received his MD degree with high honors cum laude from Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich, Germany, where he also completed his doctoral thesis in medicine cum laude on the long-term prognosis of cerebral venous thrombosis. He attended the University of Munich and the Sorbonne in Paris, France. He completed his postgraduate specialty residency training in both neurology and psychiatry at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Bronx Municipal Hospital Center in New York.

Dr. Preter served as Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and as Associate Clinical Professor of Neurology at Mount Sinai Hospital.

His speaking and teaching experience spans topics including traumatic brain injury, panic disorder, PTSD, standard of care in neurology and psychiatry, accurate diagnosis, safe psychopharmacological treatment, and neuropsychiatric overlap conditions.
