
Lauren A. Smith, Ph.D.
Dr. Lauren Smith is a biomedical engineer with specific expertise in biomechanics and medical devices. As an expert at Robson Forensic, Dr. Smith investigates cases involving traumatic injuries such as motor vehicle crashes, workplace and sports injuries, premises liability disputes, and litigation involving medical implants and devices.
Dr. Smith earned a Bachelor’s, Master’s and Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering with a concentration in Biomechanics from the University of Tennessee. Her research there focused on orthopedic implant design and performance, as well as evaluation of surgical techniques. She provided analysis for both orthopedic companies and surgeons with her assessment of joint kinematics in pre- and post- operative normal and diseased joints. She continued this work as an orthopedic industry consultant, applying her expertise in the areas of computer modeling, medical imaging, and clinical study data collection.
Dr. Smith pioneered Type 1 Diabetes research within the College of Engineering at the University of Tennessee with her development of software in Insulin Pump systems and Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) systems. She possesses a strong knowledge of drug delivery systems and the development and monitoring of software and algorithms to monitor device performance.
