
Dr. Lani Chin, Psy.D.

Dr. Lani Chin is a licensed clinical psychologist with extensive experience providing psychotherapy and clinical training in diverse settings. She currently maintains a private practice in Monterey, California, where she offers individual and couples therapy for high-functioning adults. Her approach integrates psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and humanistic methods, with a special focus on supporting individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, and members of the LGBTQ community.
Dr. Chin earned her Psy.D. and M.A. in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University, Los Angeles, with an emphasis in multicultural and community psychology. Her doctoral project, Companion Animals in Families of Choice, reflected her interest in exploring human connection, resilience, and nontraditional support systems. She also holds a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling from San Diego State University and a bachelor’s degree in psychology, with a minor in English, from the University of California, Riverside. She was inducted into multiple honor societies, including Pi Lambda Theta, Phi Kappa Phi, and Psi Chi.
Her clinical training includes pre- and post-doctoral internships at The Saturday Center for Psychotherapy, where she specialized in psychodynamic psychotherapy with adults and couples. She completed additional practica and internships at United American Indian Involvement and the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center, where she gained experience providing individual, couple, and group therapy for children and adults. These roles further deepened her work with multicultural populations, trauma, and the LGBTQ community.
Beyond private practice, Dr. Chin has worked as a clinical psychologist with Ascellus, providing work-based cognitive behavioral therapy to injured workers navigating Workers’ Compensation claims. She has also served as a contract psychologist for Gary Chang, MD, conducting psychological assessments for patients with pain disorders, and as an Assessment and Referral Counselor at Canyon Ridge Hospital, where she evaluated patients for psychiatric and chemical dependency treatment.
Since 2014, Dr. Chin has been a member of the Affiliate Faculty at Antioch University in Culver City, where she teaches graduate-level courses such as Professional Ethics and the Law, Clinical Practicum, Interpersonal Psychology, and Couples Counseling. She is an active member of the American Psychological Association and several regional psychological associations, reflecting her commitment to professional development and community engagement.
