I analyze historical weather conditions to help legal teams evaluate what occurred at a specific location and time, assess competing weather reports, and understand the evidence and its limitations. My work includes case consultation, forensic weather reports, deposition testimony, and trial testimony.
EXPERIENCE & COMMUNICATION
I have more than 30 years of experience in meteorology, including broadcast and forensic work. My experience includes deposition testimony, jury trial testimony, and preparing meteorological reports accepted in federal court. Years of explaining complex weather to public audiences inform how I communicate technical findings to attorneys, judges, and juries.
PRIMARY CASE AREAS
• Premises liability and slip-and-fall: snow, ice, freezing rain, precipitation timing and freeze-thaw conditions.
• Motor vehicle accidents: rain, fog, freezing conditions, visibility and roadway weather.

FORENSIC METHODOLOGY
I reconstruct weather conditions using historical surface observations, Doppler radar, archived weather records, and relevant atmospheric model data. I compare independent sources, evaluate their timing and proximity to the incident, and distinguish measured observations from estimates. My reports identify the data sources, analytical steps, assumptions, conflicting evidence, and limitations so counsel and other experts can examine the basis for each conclusion. I explain what the available evidence supports, what remains uncertain, and how those findings relate to the specific weather questions in dispute. My conclusions remain independent of the retaining party.
REPRESENTATIVE ENGAGEMENTS
• Hotel slip-and-fall: evaluated radar and GIS information to reconstruct the timing of conditions associated with ice formation.
• Motor vehicle collision: investigated freezing weather conditions relevant to the incident.
• Wind damage dispute: analyzed storm winds across complex terrain.
• Wrongful death involving flooding: reconstructed meteorological conditions relevant to the event.

• American Meteorological Society (AMS) Seal of Approval.

• EPA Method 9 qualification, issued by AeroMet Engineering, Inc.: Qualified to conduct EPA Method 9 Tests for visible opacity in accordance with the methods established for such qualification in 40 CFR Part 60 Appendix A.
