James Laird, PE, IAAI-CFI, CFEI, CVFI is a licensed Professional Engineer and forensic mechanical engineer with 15+ years of experience investigating mechanical failures, fires, explosions, and vehicle accidents. He is the founder of Clear Analysis Engineering, PLLC (CAE Forensic), based in Bellingham, Washington. Mr. Laird holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech and a Master of Engineering from Old Dominion University. He is a licensed PE in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, North Carolina, DC, and South Carolina. His fire investigation certifications include IAAI-CFI (International Association of Arson Investigators), CFEI and CVFI (National Association of Fire Investigators).

Areas of investigation include: mechanical failure analysis and product liability; fire and explosion origin-and-cause investigation (NFPA 921); automotive forensics and EDR crash data retrieval; forklift and manlift accidents; HVAC and plumbing system failures; sprinkler and fire suppression systems; and workplace equipment accidents. Mr. Laird provides litigation support, written reports, deposition testimony, and trial testimony for plaintiff and defense attorneys and insurance professionals.
