Introduction

Dr. Berberick is board certified in Healthcare Management. He is highly experienced as a senior manager in the fields of Mental Health, Community Mental Health, Behavioral Health, Managed Care,Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. He has over 35 years of experience in the field, has worked in both the public and private sectors, and has managed large systems of Mental Health and Mental Retardation care in New York and Massachusetts. His expertise is especially in the areas of inpatient and outpatient treatment and all forms of Mental Health treatment in community settings. This includes standards of practice in Group Homes, Community Residences, Halfway Houses, Emergency Services, Case Management, Psychiatric Rehabilitation, Social/Vocational, Behavioral Health Managed Care (HMOs), Record View, Quality Assurance, and Management/Fiscal, System Design and Community Support. Dr. Berberick served on the Adjunct Faculty of the State University of New York at Albany.

For more than 20 years he held management positions in several State Mental Health Authorities, including Chief of Vocational Services at Fort Logan Mental Health Center in Colorado; Director of Rehabilitation Services at Capital District Psychiatric Center in Albany, New York; Director of Community Support and Project Management for the New York State Office of Mental Health; and Area Director for the Massachusetts Departments of Mental Health and Mental Retardation.

In the private sector Dr. Berberick was Executive Director of Pilgrim Behavioral Health, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare; Executive Director of the Greater Lawrence Mental Health Center, Lawrence, MA; and Director of Mental Health and Consultant for Matthew Thornton Health Plan, Bedford, N.H. He has also worked as a consultant and a senior interim manager in various states.

Examples of significant initiatives include statewide implementation of the Community Support Program in New York State, design and development of a network of Admission Diversion Centers in all regions of New York State, development of single integrated delivery systems including state, county, private entities in the Capital District catchment area and in Southeastern Massachusetts, and establishment of an innovative Staff/Network Delivery Model for 400,000 members of a nationally recognized health maintenance organization.
