Introduction

Huma Nasir has over 20 years of experience in forensic casework and DNA analysis. She specializes in autosomal STRs, Y-STRs, and mitochondrial DNA analysis. Huma has testified more than 120 times in various jurisdictions across the United States in both civil and criminal cases. She has collaborated with Innocence Projects, and her testing and case reviews have led to exonerations.

Currently, Huma serves as the forensic lab director for DNA Solutions, a private DNA-accredited laboratory in Oklahoma City. Her previous roles include technical leader, DNA analyst, and associate lab director at accredited DNA laboratories in the U.S. Huma earned her B.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of New Orleans and her M.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, with a concentration in Forensic Serology and DNA, from the University of Florida.

She manages a team of forensic scientists committed to maintaining compliance with legal, ethical, and regulatory standards. Huma's rigorous quality assurance and quality control protocols ensure the accuracy and reliability of DNA analysis. She regularly processes and interprets forensic DNA evidence for criminal investigations, civil cases, and legal proceedings.

In addition to her analysis work, Huma conducts independent reviews of DNA testing and legal findings, which includes case consultation, trial preparation, testing observation, and trial testimony. She also provides technical reviews of validations from other agencies to ensure compliance with accreditation standards. Her laboratory experience encompasses DNA extractions (PCR-STR), PCR amplification, PCR analysis and interpretation, paternity testing, forensic biology screening (both presumptive and confirmatory immunoassays), forensic analysis, case reporting, technical review, Y-STR, mini STR, mitochondrial DNA, and case reviews.

Huma is certified by the American Board of Criminalistics (ABC) in Molecular Biology and is a member of the Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS). She is also a published author and speaker, focusing on topics such as the development and validation of Y-STRs, enhancing success rates in sexual assault investigations, and bone extraction procedures.
