Dr. Gregory Kucera, Psy.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist with extensive experience in forensic, correctional, and pre-employment psychological assessment. He currently serves as a psychologist with the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) Psychological Screening Program, where since 2016, he has conducted more than 12,000 psychological interviews and evaluations for candidates seeking law enforcement positions with the State of California. His work includes test administration and interpretation, record review, and consultation with state contractors, as well as preparing detailed psychological reports for candidate appeals.
Prior to his tenure with CalHR, Dr. Kucera served as a Staff Psychologist at Mule Creek State Prison under the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (2013–2016). There, he co-developed programs for the treatment of Severely and Persistently Mentally Ill (SPMI) and developmentally disabled inmates, emphasizing preventative care to reduce decompensation and state hospital placement. His work focused on individualized and group therapy, crisis intervention, and quality assurance through peer review of medical records.
Dr. Kucera completed his post-doctoral training at C.O.R.E. Medical Clinic (2012–2013), where he provided substance use counseling for patients on methadone and buprenorphine maintenance, supporting clients with co-occurring disorders through evidence-based treatment planning and relapse prevention. His earlier clinical training included pre-doctoral internships with Anka Behavioral Health (2011–2012), The Effort Inc. (2010–2011), and the Yolo County Drug, Alcohol, and Mental Health Department (2009–2010), as well as psychotherapy work at Turning Point Community Programs (2008–2009) treating patients with chronic and severe mental illness.
Dr. Kucera earned his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) and Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Argosy University, San Francisco, and his Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from California State University, Sacramento.
