Dr. George C. Yen, MD, AAHIVS

Dr. George C. Yen is a board-certified internal medicine physician and certified HIV specialist (AAHIVS) with extensive experience in primary care, ambulatory HIV management, and LGBTQ+ affirming healthcare. He currently serves as an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UCLA Health and the David Geffen School of Medicine, where he has devoted more than a decade to caring for diverse and medically underserved populations.
Dr. Yen earned his BS in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics with a minor in Education from the University of California, Los Angeles, graduating summa cum laude in 2006. He completed his medical degree through Michigan State University College of Human Medicine (2007–2009) and the State University of New York Downstate College of Medicine (2009–2011), followed by internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (2011–2014). He later pursued a fellowship in Medical Education at the David Geffen School of Medicine from 2017 to 2019.
Dr. Yen has been board-certified in Internal Medicine since 2014 and holds ongoing certification through the American Academy of HIV Medicine. His clinical practice focuses on HIV primary care, PrEP and DoxyPEP management, sexual health, and LGBTQ+ affirming care, and he has served as UCLA Health’s Ambulatory HIV Specialist for more than a decade.
A recognized leader in LGBTQ+ health education, Dr. Yen has held multiple program leadership roles, including Director of the LGBTQ+ Healthcare Fellowship (the first non-ACGME fellowship of its kind in the nation) and Co-Director of the DGSOM Professional Development Program for Physicians Caring for LGBTQ+ Populations. Nationally, he previously served as Chair of the American Medical Association Foundation Committee on LGBTQ+ Fellowships, leading a multi-institutional effort to harmonize curricula, establish milestones, and expand shared educational resources across programs.
Dr. Yen’s dedication to inclusive, evidence-based care continues to shape clinical training and expand access to affirming health services across the UCLA Health System.
