Introduction

Dr. Foresteen Sandra Forbes is a licensed clinical psychologist with extensive experience in forensic, trauma-informed, and clinical psychology. She currently provides online therapy and assessment services through Rula (2024–Present) and BetterHelp (2021–Present), specializing in anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, phobias, relationship difficulties, and complex trauma including narcissistic abuse. She employs evidence-based interventions including CBT, somatic therapy, guided imagery, and trauma-informed approaches.

Dr. Forbes earned her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Azusa Pacific University (1997–2003, APA-accredited), following a Master’s in Marital and Family Therapy (1984–1986) from the same institution, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Biola University (1970–1975). She is licensed in California (PSY 21049, active since 2006) and maintains expertise in psychodiagnostic assessment, Fitness-for-Duty evaluations, and adult psychiatric disorders, including severe mental illness and trauma-related conditions.

Her clinical career spans hospital, forensic, and community settings. From 2007 to 2022, she served as Staff Psychologist at Metropolitan State Hospital, Norwalk, CA, providing assessment, individual and group therapy, psychological testing, and consultation with interdisciplinary teams. She conducted FAA Fitness-for-Duty evaluations for air traffic controllers (2009–2016), producing detailed reports and recommendations. Dr. Forbes also completed postdoctoral training at the VA Los Angeles Ambulatory Care Center (2004–2005) and has taught psychopharmacology at CSU Los Angeles (2005).

Earlier clinical experience includes work with children, families, and DCFS-involved populations at Children’s Institute International (2001–2006), and extensive psychiatric nursing and mental health care in the U.S. Navy, multiple hospitals, and community settings from 1979 through 1999.

Dr. Forbes’ research includes her doctoral dissertation on Anton Boisen and ongoing studies of “fake-good” response profiles using the MCMI-III and PACL. She is skilled in MMPI-2, MCMI-III, PACL, trauma and dissociation assessments, suicide risk evaluation, crisis intervention, and multidisciplinary treatment planning.
