Introduction

Dr. Eliot Blum is an experienced Emergency Medicine expert witness with over 250 case reviews and extensive deposition and trial testimony. He specializes in failure-to-diagnose cases and provides clear, objective, evidence-based opinions for both plaintiffs and defendants with rapid turnaround.

A board-certified Emergency Medicine physician with more than 14 years of front-line experience in high-acuity, Level 1 trauma centers, Dr. Blum serves as an Assistant Professor at Emory University School of Medicine and practices at Grady Memorial Hospital—the largest Level 1 trauma and burn center in Georgia. He routinely manages complex trauma, neurologic and cardiovascular emergencies, critically ill patients, and incarcerated individuals. He is a Fellow of ACEP and AAEM, a certified expert witness for the Florida Department of Health, and a peer reviewer for the Georgia Composite Medical Board.

Dr. Blum has significant expertise in correctional healthcare through his role at Grady, the exclusive receiving hospital for multiple county and federal detention facilities. He performs medical clearances and treats a wide range of emergent conditions in incarcerated patients, giving him deep insight into correctional standards of care.

In addition, Dr. Blum has experience evaluating alleged physical injury in pediatric and child-protection matters, including DFACS cases. He regularly assesses bruising patterns, location, size, and color evolution, and understands the medical limitations of bruise dating, age-related bruising susceptibility, and the distinction between medical findings and non-medical allegations.

His prehospital and tactical background further enhances his expert capabilities. Dr. Blum served as a flight physician, provided medical direction for EMS and fire departments, trained paramedics and police SWAT medics, and developed emergency department and EMS protocols for physicians, APPs, and nursing staff—allowing him to opine confidently on standards of care across all levels of emergency providers.

Dr. Blum also has specialized expertise in evaluating conscious pain and suffering, a key issue in trauma and wrongful-death litigation. His Level 1 trauma experience enables him to accurately assess whether severely injured patients were conscious, aware, or experiencing pain prior to decompensation or death.
