
Dr. Donald Lewis
Dr. Donald Lewis is a board certified general and addiction psychiatrist with specialized expertise in correctional mental health care. He completed his Psychiatry Residency and his Addiction Medicine Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
For the past 16 years, Dr. Lewis has been the Chief Psychiatrist for the Federal Bureau of Prisons. He has performed various administrative, educational, clinical, and telepsychiatry tasks on behalf of 209,000 individuals incarcerated in a federal prison. Provided medical care for those with serious mental illness and addiction. Treated people convicted of crimes including drug violations, theft, sexual violence, fraud, pedophilia, homicide, and mass homicide. Managed the forensic program, testified in various courts, and provided expert assistance to colleagues both inside and outside the Federal Bureau. Conducted frequent tours of duty to prisons across the United States, including the Supermax Penitentiary ADX Facility in Florence, Colorado.
