My name is Dan M. Drzymalski, M.D. and I am an expert witness in anesthesiology. I graduated with an M.D. from Harvard Medical School and I am a full-time anesthesiologist at an academic hospital, Tufts Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. My titles include Chief of Obstetric Anesthesia at Tufts Medical Center and Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at Tufts University School of Medicine. I am also serving as Co-Chair of the Moderate Sedation Committee at Tufts Medical Center.
The past 10 years of my clinical practice have included a wide range of anesthesia experiences, including, but not limited to, obstetric anesthesia, epidural analgesia, spinal anesthesia, amniotic fluid embolism management, pulmonary embolism management, blood patch, cesarean delivery, cerclage, tubal ligation, training for local anesthetic toxicity, maternal cardiac arrest, anesthesia for gastrointestinal procedures (colonoscopy, endoscopy, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, etc.), monitored anesthesia care, and general anesthesia. I am also an expert in the reversal of neuromuscular blockade and the use of sugammadex and neostigmine. I work with certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) on a regular basis, and I teach residents, medical students, and student nurse anesthetists inside and outside of the clinical setting. I regularly attend national conferences, participate in continuing medical education activities, and stay current with the peer-reviewed literature. I also give lectures on a variety of topics at medical conferences throughout the world. I have received multiple awards, I have been twice recognized as one of Boston’s “Top Doctors” in 2024 and 2025, and I have published over 40 peer reviewed publications. I also have experience as Medical Director (Division Chief) of obstetric anesthesia, during which time our hospital has been recognized as a "Center of Excellence" (for the high quality care we provide to pregnant women) through the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology.
I have served on the Credentialing Committee, Perinatal Quality Committee, Medical Board Ad Hoc Investigatory Sub-Committee, Task Force for Safety and High Reliability Organization, Transfusion committee, Clinical Competency Committee and as Vice President of Medical Staff.
I earned my Bachelor of Arts, Magna cum laude, in two majors (Biology and Music) at Cornell University, followed by my Medical Doctor degree at Harvard Medical School. I then completed my residency training in anesthesiology at the Harvard-affiliated Massachusetts General Hospital, followed by fellowship training in obstetric anesthesia at the Harvard-affiliated Brigham & Women’s Hospital. Currently, I am double board-certified in: (1) Anesthesiology, by the American Board of Anesthesiology, as well as (2) Health Care Quality & Management, by the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians. I have a license to practice medicine in the state of Massachusetts.
