Introduction

Dr. Chester Ho-Yin Chan is a board-certified anesthesiologist with a multifaceted background in medicine, education, and technology. He currently practices as an anesthesiologist with the Southern California Permanente Medical Group at Woodland Hills Medical Center and the Greater Los Angeles Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He also works as an independent contractor in the Los Angeles area.

Dr. Chan earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Michigan Medical School in 2013. He completed his residency in Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2017, where he served as Chief Resident during his final year. His responsibilities included coordinating a call schedule for over 70 trainees, interviewing residency candidates, and organizing major departmental events.

Before pursuing medicine, Dr. Chan obtained a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering with College Honors from the University of Washington, graduating magna cum laude. He was awarded the College of Engineering Dean’s Medal and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. He later earned a Master of Science for Teachers from Pace University and taught high school in New York City through Teach For America.

Dr. Chan has contributed to research in both medical informatics and perioperative care. His award-winning project on mobile computing for clinical outcomes was recognized by the American Medical Student Association. He also co-authored multiple abstracts presented at national conferences and published peer-reviewed research in the Journal of Musculoskeletal Research.

He has held several leadership and informatics roles, including Resident Informaticist at UCLA, HealthConnect Champion at Kaiser Permanente, and Perioperative Optimization Program Champion. In addition, Dr. Chan has served as an admissions interviewer for both the Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine and the University of Michigan Medical School.

Dr. Chan has been board-certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology since 2018 and licensed in California since 2017. His interdisciplinary background informs a thoughtful, evidence-based approach to perioperative care.
