Introduction

Dr. Charla Watkins holds a doctor of nursing practice (DNP) as a psychiatric nurse practitioner from University of Tennessee Memphis and she is dual board certified through ANCC as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP-BC) and a family nurse practitioner (FNP-BC). She has 25 years of experience as a forensic nurse examiner specializing in cases of child sexual assault and abuse cases of children, adolescents and adults and she is a trained forensic interviewer. Dr. Watkins is a neutral objective fact finder who values finding truth though the evidence and she has extensive experience in providing expert testimony, testifying approximately 200 times in her career. She was an expert in a Dartmouth University rape case in 2014, working with the Williams & Connolly Law firm out of Washington, D.C.

Dr. Watkins also has extensive experience in working psychiatric medical malpractice cases and she has authored five chapters in forensic text books, including:

In 2004 she received the Washington Regional Eagle Award for Outstanding health Care Leadership and in 2015 she received the Doctor of Nursing Practice Clinical Award for outstanding clinical judgement and ethical decision making. Her doctoral research is in Human Sex Trafficking and she works to educate other healthcare staff in emergency departments and urgent care clinics to appropriately identify and report cases of suspected human trafficking. Dr. Watkins ha a private practice in Fayetteville, Arkansas where she see's patients across the lifespan for medication management, psychotherapy and education of mental health treatment and conducts casework for cases across the United States.
