
Dr. Beverly Reader, MD

Dr. Beverly Reader is a board-certified psychiatrist with nearly two decades of clinical, academic, and forensic experience across a range of psychiatric settings. She currently serves as Medical Director at the Key Treatment Center for Teens in Malibu, California, where she oversees medication management and psychiatric care for adolescents in residential treatment and partial hospitalization programs. She works closely with interdisciplinary teams and provides psychoeducation and support for families of teens in treatment.
From 2023 to 2024, Dr. Reader was a psychiatrist at UCLA’s Behavioral Health Associates, delivering insurance-based care that integrated psychopharmacology and psychotherapy. Prior to that, she served as Medical Director for Lightfully Behavioral Health in Los Angeles, supervising clinical operations across multiple sites and providing psychiatric evaluations and medication management for patients in residential and intensive outpatient care.
Since 2021, Dr. Reader has also been Director of Psychedelic Medicine at The Moment Health in Culver City, California, specializing in complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD), providing psychotherapy and pharmacologic treatment including ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP). She is Level I trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy and oversees care coordination and supervision of nurse practitioners.
Dr. Reader has extensive medicolegal experience. She served as an Independent Medical Examiner for Professional Disability Associates/Brown & Brown from 2018 to 2023, providing objective psychiatric evaluations for disability claims and authoring medical-legal reports. From 2020 to 2024, she also served as a psychiatric consultant and evaluator for two ongoing family custody cases for the Law Office of Stella Rafiei in Los Angeles.
Earlier in her career, from 2010 to 2017, Dr. Reader was an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Georgetown University and George Washington University Schools of Medicine. During her years practicing in Northern Virginia from 2010 to 2015, she testified as an expert witness for several patients involved in family court proceedings. In 2015, she testified in a criminal case as an expert witness at the request of the prosecution in Fairfax, Virginia. From 2016 to 2017, she served as a psychiatric consultant for the family law firm Greenberg, Costle & Bradley, PC in Tysons Corner, Virginia.
She completed her psychiatry residency at Georgetown University, a transitional intern year in medicine and surgery at Wilford Hall Medical Center and the University of Texas in San Antonio, and earned her medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology with distinction from San Diego State University.
