For more than 40 years Arthur L. Pressman has helped franchisors, franchisees, investors, guarantors, lessees and lessors, borrowers and lenders, insurers, and lawyers and clients resolve franchise-related disputes in state and federal courts and arbitrations throughout the USA, including serving as an expert witness. Most recently (2025) he has served as an expert witness in an AAA arbitration in Nashville during a week-long hearing before a 3-arbitrator panel that ultimately awarded the party (the owners of a franchise company who had sold their company to respondent) on whose behalf Arthur testified in excess of $10M in damages. Lawyers on both sides were Big Law partners. In 2025 Arthur also appeared for a single unit franchisee in Maryland state court who had purchased a business opportunity that was represented as a license (and not a franchise) but was a franchise under all applicable law. As the seller (defendant) did not comply with a franchise law, seller's claim for failure to pay "royalties" was resolved for no recovery. Also in 2025 Arthur appeared for an association of hotel operators/owners who had been sued for aiding/abetting human trafficking at member hotels. Arthur has also appeared for lawyers whose clients had sued them for malpractice in their practice of franchise law in arbitration and legal proceedings. These matters are representative of the types of matters that Arthur has appeared in as an expert on franchising and the practice of franchise law.
