Dr. Amir Alexander Rouhani is a dual-board-certified physician in Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine with over 15 years of experience in academic medicine, healthcare consulting, and medicolegal analysis. He is a Health Sciences Clinical Professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, where he has taught, supervised, and developed curricula since 2012.
Dr. Rouhani earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in 2006, following a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies and Ethics, cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Miami in 2002. He completed his combined Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine Residency at UCLA/Olive View from 2006 to 2011, where he also served as Chief Resident. He pursued advanced training through two Medical Education Fellowships at UCLA (2016–2018) and the ACEP/EMF Teaching Fellowship (2014–2015).
Since 2011, Dr. Rouhani has served as Attending Physician at Olive View–UCLA Medical Center and UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center, with additional service at the West LA Veterans Affairs Medical Center since 2015. He is also a long-standing physician leader, serving as Chair of the CPR/Code Blue/Resuscitation Committee and Chair of the Sepsis Core Measure Committee at Olive View–UCLA, while directing critical care, continuing care, and simulation-based training programs. His leadership extends to hospital-wide initiatives in quality improvement, peer review, utilization review, and bioethics.
As a consultant and expert witness, Dr. Rouhani advises hospitals, insurers, and legal teams on utilization review, peer review, risk management, telehealth strategy, and medicolegal analysis in emergency and internal medicine cases. He also consults on the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare, including applications in clinical practice, records review, and systems optimization. Internationally, he contributes to capacity-building initiatives in Latin America, training clinicians in trauma, ultrasound, and simulation through Project SEMILLA.
Dr. Rouhani has authored book chapters, case reports, and peer-reviewed research, including recent publications on virtual reality in anatomy education. A recipient of multiple Chairman’s Golden Olive Teaching Awards and the Most Outstanding Chief Resident in Teaching Award, he is recognized for his excellence in education and mentorship.
Fluent in Spanish, Dr. Rouhani integrates clinical expertise with strategic healthcare consulting, bridging frontline medicine, education, and systems improvement.
