Dr. Amila V. Nissanka is a board-certified family medicine physician with extensive experience in urgent care, telemedicine, disability assessments, and clinical leadership. He currently serves as the Owner and Lead Physician of Laguna Urgent Care in Laguna Beach, California, where he provides comprehensive care for patients of all ages. His practice encompasses acute and preventative services, including fracture management, laceration repair, IV hydration, medical weight loss programs, and X-ray diagnostics, while maintaining strong partnerships with insurers and community organizations.

Dr. Nissanka has also served as a telemedicine provider with Teladoc Health Medical Group (2021–2024), delivering virtual primary care consultations across multiple states. His prior roles include contract physician positions with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Oceanside, and SLMG for disability assessments. In these capacities, he cared for patients with a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, managed workers’ compensation cases, and conducted disability evaluations in compliance with federal standards.

He completed his residency training in Family Medicine at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County in Chicago (2018–2021), where he was appointed Chief Resident. In this role, he oversaw 36 resident physicians, coordinated schedules, and led program-wide wellness and communication initiatives. He also served on the Graduate Medical Education Committees for Wellness and Business, and spearheaded projects to improve physician well-being and operational efficiency. Prior to residency, he completed a Burn Fellowship at Cook County (2017–2018), managing critically ill burn patients, participating in operative and reconstructive procedures, and contributing to program evaluation and national recertification efforts.

Dr. Nissanka earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Windsor University School of Medicine in 2015 and his Bachelor of Science in Biology from York University in Toronto, Canada, in 2002. He maintains active medical licenses in California, Illinois, and Wisconsin, and holds certifications in DOT medical examinations, ACLS, and BLS.
