Dr. Alicia Marcela Azpiri Magallanes is a board-certified psychiatrist with over 17 years of clinical experience and nearly a decade of specialization in telepsychiatry. She currently provides outpatient adult psychiatric care via telemedicine for underserved and rural communities in Virginia through Array Behavioral Care. Her clinical focus includes integrative, evidence-based treatment for complex mental health conditions, and she has extensive experience serving undocumented Latino populations and incarcerated individuals.
Born and raised in Mexico, Dr. Azpiri completed her medical degree with high honors at the Institute of Technical – Superior Studies of Monterrey in 2001 and fulfilled her social service year in Tecali de Herrera, Puebla. She obtained ECFMG certification in 2003 after completing the USMLE and TOEFL exams. She began her U.S. postgraduate training in 2004 at the Harvard South Shore Psychiatry Residency Program (PGY1–PGY2) and completed her PGY3 and PGY4 years at the Harvard Longwood Psychiatry Residency Program, where she served as Chief Resident for the Latino Mental Health Clinic.
From 2008 to 2015, Dr. Azpiri served as a staff psychiatrist at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, a Harvard Medical School affiliate, where she led a primary care–psychiatry integration program and earned the 2010 Annual Award for Medical Excellence. Following her relocation to California in 2015, she joined Array Behavioral Care in 2017, delivering remote psychiatric care to rural clinics and correctional facilities, including Rockbridge Regional Jail and the Fauquier Free Clinic in Virginia.
Dr. Azpiri’s research background includes work with the Harvard Center for Multicultural Mental Health Research and the Department of Social Medicine. She is a co-author on several publications, including studies on cardiovascular imaging and mental health disparities in Latino populations.
She holds active medical licenses in California and Virginia and is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Fluent in both English and Spanish, Dr. Azpiri is an advocate for culturally responsive psychiatric care and is an active member of the American Psychiatric Association and the Northern California Psychiatric Society.
