Dr. Abinav Baweja is a double board-certified physician in Internal Medicine and Hematology/Medical Oncology with extensive training and experience in academic medicine, cancer research, and clinical practice. He currently serves as a Staff Physician with Santa Clara Valley Healthcare and as a Physician Reviewer for the Managed Medical Review Organization (MMRO).
Dr. Baweja earned his Bachelor of Science degree, cum laude, from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2011. He went on to complete his medical degree at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA in 2015, followed by an Internal Medicine residency at New York University (NYU) from 2015 to 2018. During residency, he served on both the NYU Housestaff Leadership Committee and the Physician Well-being Committee. After residency, he joined UCLA as a Clinical Instructor and Hospitalist from 2018 to 2019. He then pursued fellowship training in Hematology/Medical Oncology at the University of California, Irvine, completing the program in 2022.
From 2022 to 2024, Dr. Baweja practiced as a Staff Physician with John Muir Health Cancer Medical Group, where he held hospital privileges at John Muir Medical Center Concord and Walnut Creek campuses. In May 2025, he joined Santa Clara Valley Healthcare, with active privileges at O’Connor Hospital, Regional Medical Center of San Jose, and Santa Clara Medical Center.
Dr. Baweja’s scholarly work includes multiple peer-reviewed publications, case reports, and reviews in oncology and internal medicine. His research contributions span hematologic malignancies, rare cancer presentations, and cancer survivorship, with publications in journals such as Clinical Lymphoma Myeloma Leukemia, World Journal of Clinical Oncology, and the Journal of Oncology Pharmacy Practice. He has presented original research and clinical abstracts at national meetings, including the American Society of Hematology (ASH) and the American College of Physicians (ACP).
His honors include the UCLA Howard Hughes Medical Institute Undergraduate Research Program, the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Pediatric Oncology Training Grant, and recognition as a finalist in the ASH EQUIPS Trainee Competition. Dr. Baweja is an active member of the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the American Association for Cancer Research.
