Introduction

A former NASA human factors psychologist, Steve’s research explores the how and why of human behavior and performance in everyday situations. Steve can bring to bear often-overlooked evidence of how people understand everyday artifacts and environments, how they react to warnings and instructions, and how they perceive and misperceive risks as well as their own knowledge and abilities. Following his 2017 book entitled Careful which received widespread media coverage, Steve’s most recent work has focused on driver distraction and advanced driver assist systems.

Steve is an experienced driver, motorcyclist, bicyclist, and pilot and flight instructor.
