Introduction

Dr. Robert Tucker has a Ph.D. in Biophysics and a M.D. with a specialization in Pathology. He currently is an associate professor in Pathology at the University of Iowa College of Medicine and an adjunct associate professor in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Iowa. His areas of expertise are: radio frequency electrosurgery, medical devices with an emphasis on implantable devices, surgical complications in laparoscopy and open surgical procedures, tissue effects of medical devices both acute and chronic, tissue modification and tissue healing. In these areas he has developed medical products, bench tested the devices, employed them in animal trials and human clinical trials and obtained regulatory approval with 510(k) and PMA approvals. He has extensive experience on FDA requirements and approval processes for medical devices; he has acted as a consultant to the FDA and has given testimony to several study sections. Dr. Tucker has been a consultant to startup and large corporations such as Pfizer, Bard, Ethicon, Olympus, Gyrus, Everest Medical, Encision and Fusion. Aside from his academic appointment he has held the following positions in startup companies: President and CEO, Director of Research and Development, Medical Director and Board Member. He has authored 74 peer reviewed scientific papers, 14 book chapters and delivered 83 presentations to national and international societies. He holds 6 US patents. Dr. Tucker as acted an expert witness since 1985 in many medical legal cases, product liability cases and patent infringement cases; he has given testimony in all three types of cases. He has never had a successful Daubert challenge to his testimony. His testimony is approximately evenly divided between plaintiff and defense.
