Introduction

Matthew J. Perricone, Ph.D., Materials Science and Engineering, is currently a Principal Investigator at RJ Lee Group, Inc., where he directs and performs root cause failure analyses for multiple industrial sectors in support of product development, performance optimization, and manufacturing quality assurance. His projects also include addressing warranty, insurance and product liability claims. Dr. Perricone has been accepted as an expert in corrosion, failure analysis and materials science in U.S. District Court. He has testimony experience in depositions and at trial, including in the multi-district litigation surrounding imported Chinese-manufactured drywall. He has submitted expert reports in cases ranging from corrosion of PEX brass plumbing fixtures in residential housing to identification of particulate in lung tissue. Dr. Perricone has been the lead investigator on projects ranging from corrosion of turbine blades in power plants to failure of electric components in consumer electronics. He has conducted studies of corrosion performance and environmental degradation of materials, including concrete structures, and has done extensive work on alloy development for U.S. naval applications. Along with his work as a Principal Investigator, he is the Team Lead of the company’s Technical Consulting Services Group. Dr. Perricone has published in the peer-reviewed literature, serves as a peer reviewer for the materials science journal, Metallurgical and Materials Transactions, and is a Principal Reviewer for the Welding Journal. He was awarded the 2013 ASM Silver Medal by ASM International.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Expert in root cause failure analysis with experience in a wide variety of industrial sectors
• Accepted as an expert in corrosion, failure analysis and materials science in U.S. District Court
• Directed corrosion impact studies using simulated laboratory environments to mimic real world conditions including (1) impact of World Trade Center dust on building components, (2) corrosive effects as a result of the release of chlorine from a train derailment, and (3) impacts to residential systems from imported Chinese-manufactured drywall.
• Performed accelerated corrosion testing to evaluate remaining product life
• Credentialed expert in the areas of solidification and metallurgical microstructural analysis, particularly welding-related issues.
• Expert in problem solving with experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team of experts with a diversity of scientific backgrounds
• Experienced in the critique of appropriate use and application of analytical methods and standards, as well as whether data generated by others supports opinions given
