Marc H. Richman, Sc.D., P.E., has taught engineering and has been practicing as a forensic engineer and expert witness for over 50 years and has testified for both plaintiff and defense in about 175 trials in civil and criminal courts (state and federal). His teaching and professional experience allow him to present very complicated matters to a jury in easily understood terms - something he referred to as "super teaching" in a NY Times Educational Supplement article about Professors Who Testify.
Dr. Richman is a registered professional engineer in Rhode Island and Massachusetts and a licensed professional engineer in Connecticut. He retired from the US Army Reserve as a Major in the Ordnance Corps.
For more than 50 years, Marc H. Richman has provided forensic engineering services to a wide variety of clients. In the fifty plus years of his experience, he has conducted over 2,000 investigations for individuals, attorneys, insurance carriers, industrial firms, state agencies and commissions, and police and fire departments. He has provided expert testimony in trial courts in both civil and criminal actions, from product malfunctions, to fatal car accidents, to peeling paint on the Pell Bridge, to the Pan Am Building helicopter crash, to water and gas main failures, to metallurgical examination of murder weapons.
For more than 36 years he was a Professor of Engineering at Brown University and is currently a part time lecturer in civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering at University of Massachusetts/Dartmouth. He has served as Technical Advisor to the US District Court (RI) on patent cases (Hon. Raymond Pettine) and has been a consultant to the US Naval Applied Science Lab, the US Army Materials and Mechanics Research Center, Battelle Memorial Institute, Texas Instruments, etc.
He has the ability to distill complicated and lengthy technical and scientific topics into readily comprehensible language.
