Introduction

Dr. Mahavir B. Chougule is drug and gene delivery scientist with more than 19 years of pharmaceutical research experience in infectious disease, lung diseases, cancer, inflammatory diseases. He is in the pharmacy profession for 23 years. Dr. Chougule earned both his Ph.D. in pharmaceutical sciences in 2007 and Master of Pharmacy in 2004 after earning his Bachelor of Pharmacy in 2001. He then completed a postdoctoral fellowship in cancer therapy, lung diseases, and nano or microtechnology in 2010 at the Florida A & M University College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and joined as an Assistant Professor at the University of Hawaii College of Pharmacy in 2010. He worked for University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy for 5 years as an Associate Professor. His research centers on infectious diseases, COVID-19, asthma, lung cancer, breast cancer, mesothelioma, neuroblastoma, biostimuli-responsive based drug and siRNA coloaded nano or micro particles based pharmaceutical products. He has vast experience in the inhalation, parenteral, oral and topical routes of administration. Based on his scientific contributions and findings, he has 8 patents, 39 peer reviewed research articles, 11 review articles, 16 book chapters, and 2 editorial articles. He taught infectious disease, lung disease, pharma products, inhalation, oral and parenteral products, and pharmacy topics to undergraduate, PharmD, Master and Ph.D. students. Mentored 4 faculty, 8 postdoc fellows, 8 Ph.D. students, 16 PharmD or pharmacy students, 5 master students, 3 undergraduate students, and 3 high school students. He attracted extramural funding of 1.22 million. His research contributions publications received more than 2600 citation with h-index of 27. He is a recipient of national AACR Minority-Serving Institution Faculty Scholar in Cancer Research Awards and the Koichi and Taniyo Taniguchi Award for Excellence and Innovation. He serves on NIH, DOD, European Research Council, Foundations or Institute grant review panels. He served as a Guest Editor and also serving as a member of the editorial board on five international journals.
