Introduction

Dr. Eric R. Giannini joined RJ Lee Group’s expert team in 2017 and brings his expertise in concrete durability, test method development, and nondestructive testing. Dr. Giannini has a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Prior to joining RJ Lee Group, Dr. Giannini was an assistant professor in the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at The University of Alabama. Over the past 13 years, he has contributed to or led numerous research projects related to alkali-silica reaction (ASR) in concrete, and has partnered with experts in NDE and structural health monitoring (SHM) to investigate and validate the potential of new technologies to monitor the progress of ASR in concrete nuclear power plant structures. His projects at RJ Lee Group include consulting on concrete materials aspects of new construction projects and failure investigations, as well as concrete-related research and development activities in partnership with colleagues at several universities.

Dr. Giannini is an active member of several technical and professional organizations, including the American Concrete Institute (ACI), ASTM International, RILEM, and American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He serves as a voting member on ACI Committee 123, Research and Current Developments, ACI Committee 228, Nondestructive Testing, ASTM Committee C09, Concrete and Concrete Aggregates, and is the secretary of ASTM subcommittee C09.64, Nondestructive and In-place Testing. He has published over 25 peer-reviewed articles in journals and conference proceedings. He has served as peer reviewer for multiple journals including Cement and Concrete Research, Construction and Building Materials, and the Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering.
